Psychologists
Heather Rasmussen, PhD
Dr. Rasmussen has been providing psychological services and evaluations for over 20 years. She has worked with a variety of populations including adolescents, college students, residents of skilled nursing facilities, immigrants, and Veterans. She is licensed in Kansas and Vermont, and available to provide tele-psychology services in PsyPact states. She has a Master’s and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies and Psychology from the University of Iowa. She completed a two-year National Institutes of Health-funded postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular behavioral medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Carnegie Mellon University. She received extensive training in assessment from the Colmery-O’Neil Veterans’ Administration (VA) Medical Center, including rotations in neuropsychology and mental health assessment; Dr. Rasmussen also completed an assessment field experience in neuropsychology at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. She has completed special training in psychological evaluations for immigration cases through the Immigration Evaluation Training Center, and specialized training in evaluations for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
Her clinical work has focused on primarily on psychological assessment. She previously practiced with a large group practice in the Kansas City metropolitan area, focusing on assessment of learning disabilities, ADHD, and forensic evaluations for the Juvenile Intake Assessment Center (JIAC) of Johnson County, KS. She has experience with career and vocational assessment, strengths-based psychological assessments, immigration evaluations, and mental health disability exams for Veterans. She has provided tele-therapy to residents of skilled nursing facilities, and conducted assessments via tele-psychology. Dr. Rasmussen has worked with clients with depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress due trauma from war and sexual assault.
Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, Emotion, and the Journal of Personality and in book chapters/encyclopedias such as The Encyclopedia of Positive Psychology, Positive Psychological Assessment, and Courage. She has worked as a researcher/evaluator at a large research university, a psychologist at a VA Medical Center, and as a faculty member and administrator at both on-ground and online universities. Dr. Rasmussen has been asked to provide trainings for general and professional audiences on many psychological topics including stress management, managing depression and anxiety, obesity and healthy lifestyle changes, tobacco cessation, health coaching, women’s health issues, research and evaluation, and gratitude in the workplace.
